Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, affects an estimated 6 to 12 percent of women of reproductive age and is the most common hormonal disorder in this population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Despite its prevalence, it is frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated, leaving many women managing symptoms — irregular periods, weight gain, acne, fatigue and fertility challenges — without adequate support. Nutrition is one of the most powerful tools available for managing PCOS, particularly because insulin resistance underlies symptoms in the majority of cases.

The dietary strategies with the strongest evidence for PCOS management include reducing refined carbohydrate intake, prioritizing fiber-rich whole foods, choosing anti-inflammatory fats and ensuring adequate protein at each meal. These approaches target insulin resistance — the root cause of many PCOS symptoms — and help stabilize blood sugar, reduce androgen levels and support hormonal balance. A low-glycemic Mediterranean-style dietary pattern has shown particular promise in clinical studies, improving both metabolic and reproductive outcomes.

At NutriGreene, we take a whole-person approach to PCOS management — addressing not just macronutrient balance but stress management, sleep quality and movement patterns, all of which influence hormonal health. Whether you have a confirmed PCOS diagnosis or are experiencing symptoms that suggest it, we encourage you to seek individualized support rather than navigating the internet’s conflicting PCOS advice alone. NutriGreene and telehealth services are here to help.
